Avoid questions about system updates with dpkg :

–force-confold retains the old version

–force-confnew uses the new version

–force-confdef uses the automatic choice when possible (when the original file has not been changed)

Options to pass to dpkg with apt-get:

apt-get -o DPkg::Options::="--force-confdef" -o DPkg::Options::="--force-confold" dist-upgrade

These options can be placed directly in the configuration of apt program rather than to specify it each time from the command line. Just write the following line in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/local :

DPkg::Options { "--force-confdef"; "--force-confold"; }

If you add this option, it will be enabled in all graphic programs using apt (synaptic, aptitude ...)
