A debian package is made of 3 files :
- debian-binary. A text file with the version number of the deb format used by the package
- control.tar.gz. This compressed file contains several metadatas. Among other things, the name and version of the package, dependencies, conflicts, etc. Some of these metadata determine whether or not it is possible to install or uninstall, for example according to the list of packages already on the machine.
- data.tar.gz. This compressed file contains all the files to extract for this package executables, documentation, etc.
